Speaking to clients

Hi Ms. Robin.

I thankyou for such an informative platform for everyone. I am happy to write to you because of the hope of having an answer to my query.

I work as Life Insurance Agent and I hesitate to speak to my clients and feel something (I don't know) that I can;t speak good - (some internal fear in me)...

I feel I am not a good speaker and I feel I don;t speak good english, though I do.

Please advice me..

Hi Ghulam, thank you for your question. The key to interacting with other people is to stay focused on the conversation you are having and to silence your interal dialogue. what you say to yourself 'I am not a good speaker' gets in the way of you completely being engaged in the conversation with your client. It's a form of self sabatoge, we all do in different areas. Remind yourself to be in the moment and stay focused, make the conversation with your client the priority. The chatter is the brain being unconscious and replaying old beliefs and experiences.

At some point in the past chances are you had a conversation where you felt your english was not sufficent and your brain remembers this and is looking to recreate it. It's a limitation of human beings. The past does not create the future unless we allow our memories and internal chatter to dominate.

Look for evidence that you are a great communicator and acknowledge how well you have done learning another language. Practise makes perfect - stay with the conversation at hand and recognize the 'mind chatter' is just that, chatter, remind yourself how far you have come and stay in the moment.

Thanks again!

Regards,

Robin H-C
