Top 10 - On How to Become a Leader
Our world needs more Leaders!
- You Define YOU!- Most people are defined by their experiences, their job, physicality and percieved failures. If Edison defined himself this way it would likely be a very different world today.
- Become A Visionary- Ghandi and many of our brilliant minds had a vision long before most could even consider what they were saying as a possiblity. Believe in the invisible and know One Man CAN Make a Difference!
- Give up the need for approval- Napolean Hill, who researched the 'Law of Success' for over twenty years talks about how much of his energy was spent creating phychological and emotional immunity from all the people who did not believe in the new philosophies he was researching for Andrew Carnige. He was surrounded by people who were constanty telling him to give up. (I'm grateful he didn't, it would have made my work much more challenging!)
- Focus on the outcome- Leaders say things like, 'obstacles are what you see when you take your focus off of the goal'. Eliminate distractions, keep a clear picture of your goal or where you are going and remember JFK did not know how to create the metal to with stand re-entry when he declared he would put a man on the moon. You don't need to know exactly how things will come together, rather, just be committed you will find a way! Focus, focus, focus.
- Commitment verses feelings- feelings can get us into a mess and quickly. With each project we take on there comes a point when we question if it makes sense to continue, if it's too much work. or what the purpose was initially. A leader will break though this and it is a wonderful feeling to overcome barriers. 'On the otherside of barriers is freedom' Robin H-C :)
- Utilize your resources - Take advantage of the information and research other people have done. It is not necessary to re-invent the wheel, begin where others have left off, take on a partner and always be sure to give credit where credit is due.
- Two minds- on a goal are almost always better than one. The inertia created by two people or more focused one project or outcome will expidiete things. Remember, we can now measure thought, thoughts have energy.
- Embrace change- Be open minded. If your result is not coming through experiement with new techniques. Ask people for feedback and use anything that is considered valuable.
-Time manage- Learning to delegate your time to free you up to focus on what you do best is crucial. This is especially true when dealing with menial task you do not enjoy. If you despise mowing the lawn and make a large salary, it is not worth the mental energy or your time when you could pay your neighbors teenager to do this. Make smart time management choices.
- Be adaptable- To achieve and accomplish whatever you are up to it will involve other people. The single most valuable tool to develop is the ability to communicate effectively with all personality types in a manner that leaves them feeling honored, understood and appreciated. This is by far the most import skill to master.
